Coeliac UK opens application window for uncapped 2025 research funding

We welcome applications from researchers around the globe. This open ended funding approach marks a strategic shift: rather than placing limits on ideas, we are letting current evidence gaps and unmet needs in coeliac disease research determine the direction of innovation.

Our most recent research call in 2023 led to the funding of two exciting UK based projects:

Dr Mahima Swamy (University of Dundee), in collaboration with Dr Hugo Penny (University of Sheffield), is investigating whether enzyme inhibition could be used to treat persistent coeliac disease symptoms or reduce the impact of accidental gluten exposure, read more here.
Dr Michael FitzPatrick (University of Oxford) is using advanced molecular biology techniques to explore how cell receptors influence the immune response in coeliac disease — work that could open up new avenues for prevention or treatment, read more here.

Research remains central to our mission at Coeliac UK because of its potential to significantly improve the lives of those living with coeliac disease. With funding for coeliac research still lagging behind other autoimmune and gastrointestinal conditions, it’s more important than ever that we continue to invest in this vital area.
